Overview
Speed and large capacity equals high productivity. When the jobsite calls for large diameter chipping, look to the Vermeer BC1800XL woodchipper. Built with strength for demanding conditions, the BC1800XL possesses the power and features needed for land-clearing and tree care operations. The BC1800XL is now available with a John Deere Tier 4 Final engine with 173 hp (129 kW). Other standard features include the patented SmartFeed control system, EcoIdle™ engine control system, Tree Comander ™ remote control and Bottom Feed Stop Bar for increased operator safety.
Features & Benefits
- Automotive-Style Clutch: This proven clutch is a spring loaded, automotive-style clutch. | Routine clutch plate adjustments are not required resulting in reduced maintenance requirements.
- Bottom Feed Stop Bar: The bottom feed stop bar is strategically located to make it possible for an operator’s leg to strike the bar and shut off the feed mechanism either intentionally or automatically in an emergency situation. Hold-to-run/Reset button on each side of the infeed housing allows the operator to readily reset the system if the bar is tripped. | Helps to increase operator safety while feeding material.
- Chute Rotation System:The standard chute rotation device on the BC1800XL is a “Worm Gear” hand-crank model. | This system allows for multiple chute positions that can be changed quickly and easily from the ground.
- EcoIdle™ Engine Control System: The operator can select the EcoIdle system function which automatically lowers engine speed if no material has been chipped for 1 or 5 minutes. | The EcoIdle engine control system can reduce fuel consumption and aid in noise reduction.
- Feed Roller Pulling Power: The feed rollers have been redesigned with a helical knife pattern with spiral cleats, positioned at an angle to help hold material down against the infeed table. The feed roller motors have a displacement of 28.4 cu in (83.1 cu cm). | The feed rollers’ knife design helps hold material down against the infeed table, reducing vibration, shock, and structural strain to the rear of the machine.
- Four-Position Feed Control Bar: A four-position feed control bar is positioned within easy reach of the infeed housing and allows the operator to control the forward or reverse direction of the feed rollers. In addition, the operator can push or pull the feed control bar, stopping the feed rollers. | This design allows the operator to easily control feed direction and provides an additional way to stop the infeed, enhancing operator safety.
- Helical Feed Rollers: The vertical feed rollers are designed with spiral cleats, positioned at an angle to help hold material down against the infeed table. | With material held down against the infeed table, vibration, shock, and impact loading to the rear of the machine is reduced and processing of forked or irregular-sized material is enhanced.
- Hydraulic Over Pressure Sensor: The SmartFeed system is integrated with a hydraulic over pressure sensor to detect possible feed roller stall conditions. When a possible stall is detected in the feed rollers, material is automatically manipulated back and forth a greater distance each time, until the material successfully goes into the chipping chamber. | Operator interface is reduced by decreasing the need for the operator to manually control the unit during material processing.
- Large Infeed Opening: A rectangular, 20″ x 24″ (50 x 61 cm) infeed opening is capable of processing material up to 19″ (48.3 cm) in diameter. | The infeed opening size makes feeding irregular material easier and decreases the time and amount of saw cuts needed prior to feeding the chipper.
- Optional Winch: Designed to move large logs, the 150′ (45.7 m) winch line with 2000 lb (907 kg) pulling force. | The winch allows operators to easily move large logs and is strategically located to automatically lift the log onto the feed table.
- Removable winch line choker: Chain choker is carried out to log detached from winch line. | With the chain choker detached, the line will not sling the chain toward the winch operator standing at the side of the machine in the unlikely even the winch line is caught by feeding brush and pulled into the chipper knives. Detached choker is also more easily attached to log than hook-on cable designs.
- Shear Bar Design: The BC1800XL is equipped with a four-sided shear bar (anvil/bedknife). This design is user friendly and adjustable from underneath the machine through an access door. | Adjustment of the shear bar is simple. Ease of adjustment enables the operator to maintain better maintenance practices, which can result in consistent ship sizing and better overall job productivity.
- SmartFeed: SmartFeed is a patented feedsensing control system which monitors engine rpm and automatically stops or reverses feed rollers when feeding larger, hardwood material. With a simple switch, operators can choose between three rpm droop settings to fit the job’s specific application. | This exclusive system from Vermeer helps increase operator productivity and reduces strain on vital engine parts, as rpm settings are adjustable and automatically monitored. Three rpm settings offer improved versatility for varying applications. SmartFeed also senses feed roller jams and responds by automatically shifting material back and forth, reducing the need for manual control bar manipulation.
- Three Engine Options: Available with two Tier 4 Final John Deere options: 139 hp (105 kW) or 173 hp (129 kW) and one Tier 4 Final Cummins engine option: 130 hp (97 kW). | With three engine options, contractors have the ability to choose an appropriate power level based on their specific jobsite needs.
- Throttle Switch: The three-position rocker switch allows the operator to select low, to medium, to full rpm after the clutch has been engaged. | Prevents high rpm engagement of the clutch helping to reduce premature wear.
- Torsion Heavy-Duty Axle: The torsion axle capacity is rated at 10,000 lb (4535.9 kg). | The durable axle provides improved reliability in off-road jobsite applications.
- Tree Commander™ Remote Control: Remote to control brush chipper functions such as activating, stopping or reversing feed rollers; restarting the feed action; resetting the EcoIdle™ engine control system; and shutting off the engine. | With the standard Tree Commander™ remote control, jobsite productivity is improved by allowing the operator to control brush chipper functions remotely. The remote can be attached to the operator’s belt or held in an optional bracket mounted directly to the operator’s station of a Vermeer mini skid steer.
- Winch Interlock Storage Hook: Winch line must be stowed on interlock hook before feed rollers can begin automatically pulling the material into the chipper. | Winch interlock hook stores the winch line out of the normal material flow and protects it from being snagged and pulled into the chipper at high speed during normal operation. It also prevents simultaneous pulling out of the winch line while the feed rollers are operating, reducing the likelihood of the line being snagged and pulled into the chipper.
