- Babbitless knives: Push-bolts on the backside of the knife are used to maintain knife placement. These bolts also serve as a mechanism to prevent the knife from sliding outward toward the shear bar. | Adjustable pusher bolts eliminate the need for the time-consuming and hot babbiting process.
- Chain tensioning system: The WC2500XL conveyor chains are individually tensioned. | The WC2500XL infeed conveyor features individually tensioned chains to accommodate unequal chain wear, allowing the operator to replace a single chain at a time. - Double pivot chute: The chute on the WC2500XL features a side-to-side sweep up to 14 degrees left and 14 degrees right and can be raised up to 22 degrees or lowered 14 degrees. | The double-pivot chute allows the contractor to adjust the chute either vertically or horizontally to achieve the right angle for optimum trailer loading. Adjustments can be made from the remote control.

- Drum skin durability: Abrasion Resistant (AR400) Steel | The drum skin is manufactured using AR400 steel to help extend the life of the drum skin surface.
- EcoIdle™ engine control system: The operator can select the EcoIdle engine control system function, which automatically lowers engine speed to 1400 rpm if no material has been chipped for 30 seconds. Engine speed automatically increases if the feed roller climbs up onto the new material or the engine detects a change in loading. | The EcoIdle system can help consume less fuel if the feeding process has frequent interruptions.

- Infeed conveyor chain: The WC2500XL drag-style infeed chain is equipped with welded bars, generally referred to as snag teeth. | The snag teeth on the infeed chain assist in aggressively pulling material into the drum, helping to reduce slippage.
- Infeed system: Infeed system includes variable speed dual WDH120 infeed conveyor chains, conveyor head pulley with integral grip bars, sloped infeed table and large diameter, aggressive infeed roller with variable hydraulic crush capability. | These design elements help provide efficient feeding of difficult material types.
- Jobsite mobility: The tongue of the WC2500XL is equipped with a grapple grip collar area allowing a skidder to pick up the tongue and move the machine to a new location on the jobsite. Brake system includes extra air tank capacity and a brake release valve to allow the parking brakes to be released without hookup to a standard tow vehicle. | The whole tree chipper can be moved around the jobsite easily with a skidder grab that allows a log skidder to position or reposition the machine with ease.
- Laser-clad counterknives: Leading edge of the counterknives are surfaced with a hard laser-clad material. | The hard laser-clad material helps increase the counterknife wear over non-clad designs.
- Remote control: Machine functions can be controlled remotely. | The convenient remote control enables a user to operate the WC2500XL from another location – such as the cab of another machine. The remote control also provides real-time machine performance data to aid the operator in maximizing productivity by monitoring and adjusting settings.
- Replaceable wear components: High-wear material flow areas of the machine, such as drum knife pockets, discharge chute, cutter housing and infeed conveyor floor are designed with bolt on replaceable wear parts. | Bolt on wear components make replacement convenient and following recommended maintenance intervals helps extend machine life.
- Sloped infeed table: The six-degree sloped infeed table lowers the break over point where long material first contacts the machine. | This provides smooth flow of long material from the ground up onto the infeed table and reduces the likelihood of limbs or tree canopy from snagging on the end of the machine.
- SmartCrush: The machine monitors the position and down pressure of the infeed roller. Down pressure is minimized until the feed roller has climbed up onto material, then increases to pull difficult material with forks or large limbs to the cutter drum. | The feed roller easily climbs up and onto material to start the feeding process, then automatically increases down pressure. With material securely gripped by the infeed system, the operator can release the grapple and concentrate on the next load of material.
- SmartFeed: SmartFeed is a patented feedsensing control system which monitors engine rpm and automatically stops or reverses the feed roller and infeed conveyor when feeding larger, hardwood material. SmartFeed also senses feed roller jams and responds by automatically shifting material back and forth. Operators can select from three preset settings or program a custom setting in mode four. | The exclusive Vermeer SmartFeed system helps increase operator productivity and reduces strain on vital engine parts. With four selectable rpm settings, the system offers improved versatility for varying applications. By controlling material jams, the need for grapple loader manipulation is reduced.
- Threadless drum design: The threaded nut-bar located in the knife mount can be easily replaced. The drum shaft is retained using a locking hub. Each pocket divider can be unbolted and replaced. | Eliminates the need for costly drum replacement or repairs resulting from damaged threads.
- Variable chip size options: Shims under the knife allow for varying depths of cut adjustments in three knife configurations. Select from 1/8” to 3/16” (4.76 mm), 1/4” to 3/8” (4.23 mm) or ½” to 5/8” (15.87 mm). | Adjustable chip size allows one machine to provide different end products to meet the needs of multiple end-users.
- Variable pitch, reversing fan: The fan will change pitch depending on conditions and can be programmed or manually operated to reverse the engine fan. | The fan pitch will vary in order to use the least amount of horsepower necessary to cool the engine, allowing more horsepower to be transmitted to the drum on days of cooler, ambient temperature. Fan reversals help to eliminate buildup of dust and debris outside the radiator screen, which can assist in the reduction of engine overheating.
- Work lights: Work lights for extended workdays can be controlled from the chipper control station or the remote control. | The operator of the machine can turn on the work lights to assist seeing into the trailer while chipping. In addition the operator can shut off the work lights via the remote control allowing a truck driver to back up the trailer to the chipper without interference from the bright work lights.
