Solar farms have quickly become more prolific in the Australian renewable energy market, and for good reason. Over time, experts are estimating Australia’s leading source of power will be through carbon-neutral means such as solar panels. It’s no wonder landowners and farmers with room to spare are utilising their large areas of free space for solar farms.
Choosing the right pile driver can be a daunting task. But fear not, we’re here to help. At Vermeer WA & NT, we have a selection of different pile driving equipment that’s good for both the smaller and bigger jobs.
Getting the right pile driver
Deciding on the kind of pile driver is dependent on the job at hand. Typically, pile drivers are designed for a solar farm, so that they can install hundreds and even thousands of solar panels. On the other hand, some sites only require small paddocks worth of solar panels to be installed, so it would be an overkill to purchase the largest machine available.
It’s important the equipment is fast, efficient, and suits your requirements. Let’s take a look at the three solar pile drivers we have available – the PD5, PD10 and PD10R.
PD5 – Compact and efficient
Beginning with the smallest of our range, the PD5 Pile Driver is perfect for microgrids that are small to medium-sized projects. The PD5 has a compact form factor that is easy to use and operate with walk-beside control panels. Highly accurate lasers and optional GPS locating remove any human error in highly complex jobs.
Weighing in at 4.7 tonnes, which is light as a feather in the world of pile drivers, means that surface damage on work sites is kept to a minimum. Don’t think that the compact design means the PD5 isn’t up for a big job. In terms of job performance, it’s nearly identical to its bigger brother the PD10. A powerful 1500 BPM and 950 Joules hammer is more than enough for any soil conditions for solar panel installation. The only difference is the shorter mast and form, which allows for a faster workflow.
PD10 – Robust and accurate
For commercial solar contractors, the PD10 Pile Driver is the right choice. It makes solar panel installation highly accurate and efficient for large jobs. This model is designed to suit any client demands and can build even the largest of solar farms.
Vermeer has designed the PD10 to be the best pile driving equipment available. It’s just as easy to remove piles as it is to drive them. If needed, any incorrectly installed piles can be removed without a hassle. The same highly accurate laser GPS can be installed into the control system, improving both productivity and quality of the job. To further improve work efficiency, the PD10 is also equipped with an Autoplumb. This conveniently removes the need to manually adjust the plumb orientation and positioning.
DP10R – Fully remote
When choosing the right pile driver for your solar jobsite, safety is usually a top priority. The PD10R Pile Driver is a redesign of the already highly efficient and safe PD10. All the key features of the PD10 are found in the PD10R, but with just one major difference. It’s entirely remote. This removes the need for operators to be close to the machine, allowing them to work from a safer distance. Not only does remote operation mean it’s safer, but it also gives the operators a better vantage point to oversee their work, especially in congested job sites.
